Good News – Your Competition Is Lazy!

Yep, it’s true. They are for the most part unfocused, don’t really know what they are doing and just use a ‘scatter gun’ approach and even use stupid, spammy, half-assed techniques and hope something sticks! But I suspect the majority are not really doing much at all – just jumping from pillar to post, I.M. tactic to I.M. tactic and buying way too many ‘How To‘ products.

Seriously this is what 90%+ of your ‘so called’ competition is doing. Bugger all!

ORย ( the Pro 10%) ย are making good money and are seriously worried that you are going to hijack their income! This top 10% SHOULD be worried as, using our IM Power Club info & techniques, the chances are that we can blow them away whenever we choose!

Those facts should seriously empower you – they do me!

In essence: join the 10% Club and use THAT as your starting point to making decent money online.

Plus don’t fall for the lie that making a decent income online is easy – it’s not.

BUT that said it is the only ‘job’ I know where you can realistically double/triple/quadruple+ your income year on year!

While I’ve made a good living online with Adsense and selling affiliate products down the years it all went belly up post Google’s Panda & Penguin updates – rankings gone, income all but gone. Same story for many Internet Marketers of course: my organic SEO pages were basically ‘fragged’! I woke up one morning and a main income stream had just GONE!

Plus the problem was that, while the going was good, the good didn’t get going – I’d gotten lazy!

As the Clickbank cheques, other affiliate commissions and Adsense payments were coming in regular as clockwork I’d stopped developing new income streams and instead just drifted along, maybe selling a site or 2 on Flippa, building an Amazon Review site – the usual, just messing about and not really worrying too much if anything ‘stuck’ and made money – SO stupid and short-sighted!

So around this time last year I decided to focus more and fart about less!

Result being I’ve had my best ever year, even though my Adsense revenue, and other income streams have all but disappeared!

So here’s what I focused on:

  1. Concentrate on ONE Internet Marketing tactic until I found one that worked well (in my case this was video marketing) and then ramp it up. Sure move on to another later but get something, that is replicable, working first, then build on it.
  2. If something doesn’t work, ditch it and move on – no more ‘flogging of dead horses’!
  3. Since the tactics I was using created an income then there was a ‘product’ to create on the back of that, even a simple low cost WSO.
  4. Use ONE membership site to be the delivery vehicle for ALL my online marketing stuff (e.g. this blog is an extension of that site).
  5. Build a list of peopleย (something I’d always shied away from) interested in the marketing tactic that is working for me. Don’t abuse the subscribers and only give them good relevant info – follow the ‘1000 Loyal Fans’ philosophy and market as I would like to be marketed to (but rarely am!)
  6. Invest some of my profits into related projects – outsourcing software building ideas, Facebook ads etc.
  7. Wherever possible lessen Google’s control over my income!
  8. Mastermind with smart people! If they are making money online, even in a different field from me, they can inspire, motivate and focus me – hopefully vice-versa too! Even if it’s just skype chatting to a person with the same aspirations as you your productivity will rocket.
  9. Try and think more ‘Outside The Box’ – don’t fall for the falsehood that just because somebody says something won’t work it can’t be done.
  10. Spend a designated part of the day, or day of the week, on learning more about the marketing that I am currently having success with,

There you go – a 10 Step Plan!

Now don’t get me wrong! While I will continue with all of the above in 2014 there are MANY areas where I’ve failed. Here are a few of my additional resolutions to up my game for next year:

  1. Stop checking my email all the time – limit it to: first thing, mid day, early evening and last thing before I quit for the day. I find this really challenging ย I admit!
  2. Structure my days better e.g. 10.00 to 12.00 (Monday to Friday) create/upload and optimize a video. 12.30 to 14.00: Work on backlinks – whatever. My nature is to either jump about from one thing to another or spend an inordinate amount of time on one thing!
  3. ‘Play’ on the Web i.e. non work related stuff=- only on Sundays.
  4. Take more breaks! Get more exercise, get away from the computer more and play with the dogs. Have an after lunch siesta!
  5. Always have another ‘project’ in the pipe-line but only work on it ( maybe just on a Saturday) – can be something NEW!
  6. Stop being a perfectionist! I can do something fast and well – it doesn’t always have to be pixel perfect! ( Big, BIG problem for me).
  7. Unsubscribe from more stuff! Even though I only open probably 10% of the emails I get (probably like you I’m on WAY to many lists). Massive time suck! I’m trying to get into the habit of ‘unsubscribing’ when somebody sends me to offers and nothing else – I want/demand some ‘added value’ otherwise get the Hell out of my Inbox!
  8. Send something of value to my Subscribers once a week ( NO! Not just a related affiliate offer) so they won’t do a #7 on me.
  9. Split Test stuff ( I hate that! Got to get to grips with it).
  10. Stop over-analyzing everything!

Now obviously all of the above is personal to me and what I do online but what about you?

    Wow Clive – You explained my old habits to a tee. I too was an unorganized mess in my previous years. You hit on many points that distract marketers from being more productive.

    Three major ones for me were:

    1. Email… and all of the marketers bombarding me daily.
    2. Getting distracted by popular sites and social media.
    3. Perfection. I believe I have not finished 80% of what I started due to being a stubborn perfectionist.

    My advice is to focus and finish what you started even if it fails. It is a learning experience you may benefit from in the future.

    Great advice and the 10 step plan is an excellent blueprint for others to follow.

    Glad to see the blog get rolling.

    I don’t think you should beat yourself up to hard, as a lot of us suffer the same problems! ๐Ÿ™‚ I know I certainly see more of myself here than I’m comfortable with!

    Focus has always been one area of difficulty for me and setting long term goals has always been something that eludes me. ( A 5 yr plan? I do much better with a 5 DAY plan personally!) lol

    Good advice and honest truth. That’s my kind of blogging! Look forward to reading more.

    Now let me find my pencil so I can jot down my next 5 hour plan or I’ll be stuck in the darn email box rabbit hole AGAIN! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Very insightful post Clive. This year was not my best year but it was a learning experience to say the least.

    I got over shiny object syndrome and decided to unsubscribe from a lot of lists. I found out some things that I don’t want to do and that was necessary for me to find what I do want to do.

    Joining your IMPower club was one of the good things I found this year.

    Thanks for sharing with us. I’m looking forward to a more focused 2014.

    Now here we are in late 2015 and STILL – hard to believe – producers of products ( I’ve received multiple emails recently for a CPA product) are saying that we need to get video viewers to ‘click the link in the Description’! Freakin’ unbelievable! And yet, in a good and weird way, cool for us that know better ๐Ÿ™‚
